Taormina

Taormina is famous for its beauty, its incredible heritage in history, archaeology and architecture. It is perfectly situated to offer students easy access to the beautiful and historically important treasures of Sicily. Taormina has been built atop Mount Tauro, just above the Bay of Naxos, the first Greek colony in Sicily, founded in 735 B.C..

The city is like a treasure of history; walking along its main street, Corso Umberto, and the maze of narrow staircased streets and small beautiful squares, you will discover one of the most famous Greek Theatres in the world. Then you can find Odeon and Baths from the Roman Age, beautiful buildings in which the Arab and the Norman cultures melt together in a memorable sense of beauty, traces of the Byzantine domination and beautiful villas which belonged to the European aristocracy in the XVIII and XIX centuries, all in the context of a small town on Monte Tauro, overlooking the coastline of the Ionian Sea. Sicily is also known worldwide for its traditional food and its wine. From pasta alle sarde, arancini di riso and caponatina to cannoli and pasta reale, Marsala, Nero d’Avola and Malvasia wines.
